Dear Central Kitsap High School Students and Families,

We are working hard with our student leadership to fully build back our CK community into One Cougar Nation. One more tradition we are implementing back right away is C-notes.

We have lots of outstanding students here at CK, and C-Notes are one way we say thank you and let them know our staff appreciates their efforts.

What is a C-Note? A C-note is recognition from a staff member which addresses outstanding and commendable leadership shown by students throughout our Cougar Community. The goal is to honor great citizenship and students that are contributing positively to improving the culture and community of CKHS.

How do C-Notes work? When staff see a student do something worth recognizing, they fill out a C-Note with a brief description of what they did and then give it to the student. The student can drop the C-Note in the collection box right outside of the main office. Aside from the positive reinforcement of being recognized by you, there will be a drawing at the end of the month for donuts. The first drawing is at the end of October.

Career and College Night is back!

CKHS College and Career Night is Tuesday, October 5th, from 5:00-7:00pm starting in the Commons. At this event you can talk with local employers, military recruiters, ROTC/Academy representatives, and various technical/community/4 year colleges about the opportunities available to you. All grade levels and their families are welcome, so please join us for this event to help you plan for your exciting future!

PSAT/NMSQT will be held on October 13th at 7:50 AM. All CKHS Juniors will take the PSAT at no cost. The PSAT is great practice for the SAT and also allows students to receive personalized college guidance and access to National Merit Scholarship and other money for college. All juniors are currently signed up to take the exam, so no registration is required. If you would like to opt your 11th grader OUT of testing, please complete the PSAT Opt Out Form. If you have any additional questions, please contact Elizabeth Martin at

Graduation Requirement State Testing

Washington State is conducting a round of Smarter Balance testing this fall to get a snapshot of where students are at academically. CKHS will conduct these tests on 11/1 and 11/2 for 9th, 11th, and 12th graders during normal school hours. More information will follow as we get closer to the testing dates, and anyone interested in learning more about Smarter Balance assessments should check out this link from OSPI:

E-mail us at;  “like us” our Facebook page: ; visit us on our website ; AND follow us on Instagram @CKHSPTSA The theme for this month is CARE. We notice as we are TOGETHER is that many families- if not most- are new to CKHS. One of the most important things we can provide for each other is the opportunity to connect and CARE for one another: Reach out, Cougs!

Parents- CARE for each other and introduce yourself to someone new. One easy way to connect and meet someone is through volunteering. The school needs 10-12 parent volunteers on Wednesday, 10/13/21, from 7:30 am- 12 noon to help during PSAT testing at CKHS. Please let us know if you are available via e-mail or social media. This is one important way the CKHS PTSA parents can support the school even though our students are older.

Teachers- also need our CARE. Consider sending a pack of tissues to a teacher.

Students- at CKHS are so talented and it is time to be working on entries for Reflections! The theme for this year is “I will change the world by…” Let’s help CARE about the Arts and the world!

Association- The PTSA is a group that is more successful with more membership, and we are intentional in our actions. Our current goal is 100 members by the end of October. Please show you CARE and join the CKHS PTSA. Look for our survey in the next few weeks to help us see how we are doing on our path to being a potential School of Excellence (a national PTA program).

Tutoring and Activity Buses

Our after school tutoring program is up and running in the library. Our goal is to provide students a space to work with staff members each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday over the course of the year to support students’ academic tutoring needs. Tutoring will run from 3:00-4:00pm.

We are also running activity buses! CK Campus will have three activity buses on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The buses will depart campus at 4:15pm. The routes and drop off times for the three buses are posted in the cafeteria and on our website. Students staying after school to study, get help from teachers, attending club meetings, and/or attending athletic practices may ride the activity buses.

Speaking of club meetings...have you visited the CKHS Clubs page? CKHS has clubs from D&D, Cybersecurity, Knowledge Bowl, Sailing, and more. Please encourage your students to take a look. If your students aren’t interested in athletics, there are many other options for students to connect and have fun together.

Attendance Office Reminders

Thank you for your active participation helping to make sure parent excused absences are reported to our Attendance Office at 360-662-2430 or emailed to

If you need to have your student released early from school, please notify us at least an hour in advance to ensure we have them ready to leave as needed.

Thank you all and have a great weekend.
