2020-21 Update from CKHS #4

September 11th

Dear Central Kitsap High School Students and Families,

As students take a break from their studies as we move into the weekend, air quality conditions may change rapidly due to wildfire smoke and changing winds. Here is a helpful link to real time air quality updates for you and your family. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Textbook check out and pick up information

During the week of 9/14 we will host a drive through event to distribute materials to students.

When and Who: Each of the following days from 11:00AM-3:00PM.

Out of concern for our community at risk due to the current air quality in our area, we are extending our pick up hours on Thursday, September 17 when air quality is forecasted to be improved to end at 5:00PM. Although you may still pick up your students’ school materials during the previously scheduled times, you are welcome to wait until Thursday afternoon.

Due to transportation, other schedules, or health/air quality concerns, all families are welcome to come by and pick up textbooks/materials in sessions beyond their alpha assignments.

If you need to pick up student materials beyond the times posted above, please email our Dean of Students Mr. Keel ( He will work with you to arrange a date/time that works for you.

Where: This drive through event will be held from the main driveway entrance through the drop off circle in front of the main entrance.

For 11th and 12th grade students, planners will be available for purchase for $5.00. We will be accepting exact cash or check payments on-site. You may also pay online (instructions below) and show your receipt at the drive through event.

Student schedule information from Counseling

Counselors are working to prioritize schedule changes based upon the following criteria:

  • Is your schedule missing a period (i.e. do you have a hole in your schedule)? - Please email your Counselor with what course(s) you are hoping to add.
  • Does your schedule say "See Counselor"? - Please email your Counselor with a good phone number to reach you at.  Your Counselor will either email or call you to discuss your schedule.
  • Are you misplaced in a course?  For example, are you in Spanish 3 but should be in Spanish 1?  Email your Counselor with what needs to be adjusted.
  • Do you want to know why you didn't get a particular course?  Most likely, the course you were hoping for was either cancelled or did not work with your schedule.  Counselors did their best to honor your first or second choice requests.  Due to limited time & numerous changes to our schedule, Counselors were not able to call/email every student and, in some situations, Counselors had to select a course on your behalf, as was explained during the Registration process.  In these situations, Counselors did their best to make sure your schedule is helping you to meet CKSD Graduation Requirements.
  • Do you just want to discuss your options? - Counselors are working as quickly as possible, but cannot guarantee a timely response to these inquiries.  If you have a full schedule, please follow your schedule, email your Counselor your request & they will do their best to respond.

Beginning on Sept. 8th, Counselors will be taking appointments through their BookMe links.  Please see our Counseling website under "Contact Us" for more information.

Weekly Learning Plans for students’ classes

As communicated previously all teachers have posted weekly learning plans to their Google Classrooms. You and your students should be able to access the assignments, lessons, videos, directions, and other necessary support materials to complete all assignments over the next week. These lessons are primarily designed for students to work at their own pace. Students will be able to access their teachers for support through the Google Classrooms and scheduled Meets with teachers according to the weekly schedule table posted below.

Chromebook repair or requests for returning students

If you are in need of chromebook repair please go to and complete the Chromebook Repair Request form.

Attendance during remote learning

OSPI and CKSD requires we still take attendance during remote learning. To be marked present for each class period students must demonstrate engagement in remote learning. Student can demonstrate engagement in attendance for each class by doing one or more of the following:

  • Interacting with the teacher via email or phone calls
  • Attendance in a Google Meet
  • Evidence of participation in a task or assignment

Library resources

Starting on the first day of school students will be able to access the ebook collection at CKHS through our Sora portal, which can also be accessed through CKSD Classlink. As soon as possible we will communicate directions for students to reserve and check out books through our traditional library collection.

Office Hours

We are back to working in the main office. If you need assistance with anything you can call the main number (360-662-2400) and speak to someone in the office. You may also leave a message and one of our staff will return your call as soon as possible.
