We are incredibly excited to welcome our students back for the first day of school! This year, for the first time, we will begin the year together with an all-school assembly. Students should report first to their advisory for attendance at 7:50, and will then head to the gym for our opening assembly. Because arrival will be especially busy that morning, families dropping off students should allow plenty of extra time and, when possible, drop students off as close to the gym as traffic flow allows. Student drivers may park on campus without a parking pass during the first two weeks of school, giving everyone time to complete the parking registration request process. We know the first morning always brings a little extra energy and activity, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we get over 1,500 Cougars onto campus and start the year together. See you soon!

The CKHS Counseling Team is excited for a great year and can’t wait to welcome our students back! If your student has a schedule concern, please have them continue following their current schedule for now. Schedule corrections will be considered if your student is misplaced in a class, is missing a course needed for graduation, or is repeating a class they have already taken and passed. Please remind your student to recheck their schedule on PowerSchool on the first day of school as counselors have been working to balance class sizes and make sure every student has a complete schedule. 

Beginning September 4, students may schedule an appointment with their counselor. As always, if there is an emergent situation, please direct your student to the counseling office right away.

Research has shown that therapy dogs in schools can help build strong social emotional skills in students. A therapy dog’s presence has also been shown to reduce anxiety, help students work through anger management concerns, reduce bullying tendencies, and address other personal and social issues that all of our developing students deal with. There are specific goals of the therapy dog program:

Therapy dogs used by CKSD are certified through AKC recognized organizations. To belong to these organizations the dog must be tested and evaluated by a Certified evaluator. A dog must be a minimum of one (1) year old and have a sound temperament. Each dog must pass a Handler’s assessment.

Registered Therapy dogs have specific cleanliness and grooming requirements. All certifying therapy dog organizations also require annual veterinarian checks for registered Therapy Dogs along with regular evaluations to maintain certification.

Please complete and return this opt-out form to the main office within 10 days of receipt, if you do not want your child to have contact with therapy dogs at school.

Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, when a classroom activity requires the use of technology, students will be expected to use their school-issued Chromebook. Personal laptops, tablets, iPads, gaming devices, and other personal electronic devices may not be used during class unless the school has approved a specific exception for a student. This change only affects access in CKHS classrooms, so students may continue using their personal devices at home or while participating in off-campus programs such as Running Start, West Sound Tech, or other similar programs.

We made this decision after reviewing feedback from students, staff, and families. We understand that many students prefer their own devices and raised valid concerns about Chromebook speed, blocked resources, Running Start/West Sound coursework, and specialized learning needs. At the same time, staff feedback strongly reflected concerns about classroom distractions, effective monitoring, assessment security, and consistent and appropriate use of classroom technology. Using school-issued Chromebooks as the standard classroom device when technology is needed will help create clearer expectations and a more consistent learning environment. We also recognize that some students may experience real challenges with Chromebook use, and our staff will work with students and families to navigate concerns related to access, functionality, coursework, and learning needs.

Student parking passes for the 2026–27 school year will be available to request through the CKHS website. Parking is limited, and requests for juniors and seniors will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until all available spaces have been assigned.

Sophomores with a valid driver’s license and insurance may also submit a request, but historically we have not had enough capacity to issue sophomore passes. Students must have a valid license and insurance and have all outstanding school fees and fines paid before receiving a pass. Because it will take time to process requests, parking passes will not be required during the first two weeks of school, August 31–September 11.
